The Current Crisis in Turkey

The head of the Turkish diplomatic mission, Minister Mevlüt Cavusoglu, declared that the current crisis in Turkey will worsen if the humanitarian crisis erupts in the Syrian city of Idlib, in which case Turkey would be the country most affected. So he called on the European Union (EU) to honor its commitment to the Syrians. This happened at a high-level meeting on Syria organized by the EU at the meetings of the 74th General Assembly of the United Nations.

Cavusoglu said that if the humanitarian crisis in Syria grows worse, Turkey would be the country most impacted. They have already taken in 4 million people and 300,000 are waiting to enter the country. But he stressed that Turkey cannot cope with this surge.

The Turkish minister said that Turkey had spent $ 40 billion for refugees and that the EU had failed to honor its financial aid commitments. He noted that the Global Forum in Geneva next December will be a good opportunity to help refugees and Turkey with greater economic support.

He also noted that Turkey plans to organize an international refugee conference on repatriating the Syrians, where he hopes to see all the European Community countries in the region.

Addendum: It could be said that the glory days of the Ottoman Empire are being revived several centuries after it flourished on three continents with Sultan Suleiman and Admiral Barbarossa in the magnificent Topkapi Harem, where the main Turkish museum of all time is now located.
